Aetna announces lower rates for NYC in 2009

MedSave Admin | December 3, 2008

Aetna introduced two new low cost health plans for residents of New York City. While the comforably under $300 per month insurance plans might not seem like such a great deal to others throughout the country, they are likely to be welcome by those New Yorkers who pay more than $15 for just a hamburger. The summary of NYC Communiy Plan 6E-08 and 5E-08 is posted below.

It is not known whether this anouncement signals rate reductions are ahead in other markets. Some industry insiders predict insurers will lower rates to the lowest level allowed by law in 2009, even intentionally taking a loss on some health plans, in order to prevent losing much of their membership base during the current recession.
