 Supplement maternity coverage

January 1, 2010

Q: Do you know if there is something that would supplement my current insurance and help with the cost of maternity care too. How long would the waiting period be before it would be covered?

A: Core Health Insurance has a short 30 day waiting period for sickness benefits and a six month waiting period for the hospitalization benefits but no waiting period for other benefits due to a pre-existing conditions. This is likely the most favorable choice with regard to this specific coverage.

The shortest waiting period for pre-existing medical conditions with other supplemental benefits is six months including Basic Health Insurance (the same as the wait for hospitalization benefits for Core Health Insurance). See the Basic Health Insurance Knowledge Base for more information.

Also see "Basic health insurance covers maternity" and "Core Health maternity coverage" topics for additional discussion.
