Immediate insurance for a Child

KM | May 1, 2008

Q: I need to discuss a short term medical plan for my child. She needs her tonsils removed a.s.a.p. as it is affecting her breathing. I do not qualify for CHIP and do not have 45 days to wait for them to decline me. Help!

A: Insurance does not immediately cover the cost of treating pre-existing medical conditions in this situation where there was no prior insurance coverage. Still, it is important that you enroll your child in insurance immediately to cover unexpected medical costs in the future that could be even larger than the proposed procedure. Please see http://www.medsave.com/low-cost-health-insurance.html for a listing of plans available in your state. Most of these policies offer immediate online pricing and enrollment.
