How many people are covered by Health Savings Accounts?
Q: How many people are covered by Health Savings Accounts?
A: According to the April 2008 report issued by America's Health Insurance Plans, 6.1 million people in the U.S. were covered by HSA-qualified insurance plans as of January 1, 2008 as compared to 4.5 million in 2007. This is apparently about 2% of the total population of the United States.
The number of Health Savings Accounts may be different than the number with qualifying insurance. We presume that not all people covered by qualifying insurance have a Health Savings Account and that some people who have a Health Savings Account are not covered by qualifying insurance.
