Hospitalization insurance for diabetic

TA | September 30, 2008

Q: My husband is 45 and diabetic. His diabetics is under control and he takes very little medicine. He needs cheap insurance coverage. Hospitalization only is all that is needed.

A: Your husband needs a "guaranteed issue" type insurance plan because of the diabetes.  The most affordable insurance plans of this type are Basic Health Insurance and Core Health Insurance. These cover more than just hospitalization but hospitalization benefits are included in each plan. Basic Health Insurance provides only up to $300 per day and up to $600 per day for intensive care. The Core Health Insurance offers up to $1,000 per day for regular hospitalization and $1,500 for intensive care. We do not know of any low cost guaranteed issue insurance that only covers hospitalization coverage without other benefits.
