HEART BYPASS LIMITS INSURANCE ELIGIBILITY

January 1, 2010

Q: I have had a double bypass surgery  in 2000; and was hospitalized for one week with a diagnosis of atrial fibrillation. Am taking several medications daily. Would I still be eligible for coverage?

A: You would not be eligible for a commercial-type major medical insurance but you would qualify for a limited benefit insurance that does not have any medical eligibility criteria like Core Health plan. Your major medical insurance must come from an open enrollment state insurance pool if employer-provided group coverage is not available. You may find that the additional comments contained in the article "Health Insurance for Diabetics" are also applicable and useful with a heart by-pass history.
