SUPPLEMENTAL COVERAGE FOR PREGNANCY EXPENSES

January 1, 2010

Q: I am eight months pregnant & currently have UPMC HMO but its only covering 80% of my hospitalization. Would short term medical insurance work as supplemental insurance?

A: No, short term medical insurance would not help and this coverage is not available while pregnant or while covered by another insurance. STM is not supplemental insurance. You may wish to consider adding any of the supplemental insurance plans: Core Health Insurance, Basic Health Insurance, Value Med, Value Health, and other Value Benefits. These will help cover your out-of-pocket medical expenses over the long term but really will not make any difference on your delivery expenses this month due to the initial waiting period required.
